A former classroom teacher of math, ELA, social studies, and film, Peter has also worked in K-12 publishing for three decades. With an emphasis on literacy and writing instruction, he has contributed as a consultant, editor, or writer to numerous leading programs, including:

His experience in this field has led to his twice being invited by the United Nations to participate in World Literacy Day events at UN Headquarters as well as being invited to be a featured speaker at School Library Journal's annual Leadership Summit. Additionally he has led workshops, panels, and presentations at the annual gatherings of the International Reading Association (now the International Literacy Association), the National Council of Teachers of English, and the American Library Association.
